Nowhere to Hide...

Hide n Seek

In childhood I loved being still.
Realising early that being silent
had advantages. More lately
wishing that I had not learned that.

In my twilight twenties
sardines was fun,
quiet still,
but a more...social version of hiding!
Grin.

Watching my own children play,
at first noisy and surprised to be found,
then silent and still
stealthy and refusing to disclose the
perfect hiding spot.

Adult self
hiding behind
the masks
and tasks
we choose
and accept.

At work, observing
clever children forgetting that
they are hiding from the adults
around
and disarmed, not alarmed,
to be suddenly found and spoken to
with directness,
suddenly
nowhere
to hide.

Always new things we all should learn.
Could be news,
local, national or global...
or personal.
